Can anyone stop Geldenhuys & Le Roux in Gqeberha?
Young guns Antwan Geldenhuys and Josh Le Roux head to Gqeberha’s Aldo Scribante raceway fighting for control of the 2022 Investchem Formula 1600 title race, with the rest of the field out to prevent it from becoming a two-horse race. Geldenhuys and Josh Le Roux have shared out the race victories so far this season, with Antwan holding a handy 6-point advantage leading into the PE races.
Le Roux has been in scintillating form in his Steelform Art Mygale, but come the races Geldenhuys’ Abacus Divisions Mygale has enjoyed an advantage in the race. Best of the rest, brother Gerard Geldenhuys’ second Abacus Mygale sits in striking distance in third with veteran Investchem Formula 1600 duo Nicholas van Weely in his Magnificent Paints & Hardware van Diemen and Andrew Schofield’s Fly Safair Mygale tied on points in fourth.
Best of the Investchem F1600 rookies, Cape lad Troy Dolinschek has overcome a challenging start to sit sixth in the championship chase after four races in his Sujean Properties Mygale, with Alex Vos’ similar DVBS Investchem machine next after he endured a similarly testing start to his season, only to bounce back with his best result yet in Zwartkops’ second heat.
Watch for Ewan Holtzhausen and another Cape rookie, Jason Coetzee’s Mint Wraps Mygale to shine in PE as both of them have points to prove. And the returning Siyabonga Mankonkwana’s Investchem Mygale and Macrocomm lass Taya van der Laan are quietly getting up to speed and judging by Taya’s recent karting form, she is ready to surprise on the main circuit too.
A field of Formula Ford Kents will join in behind the rapid wings and slicks Formula 1600s at Zwartkops. Mr. Investchem Formula 1600 Ian Schofield has to be the man to beat, but he will have Rick Morris, Graham Hepburn, Ronald van Weely, Steve Venter and Allen Meyer snapping at his heels. Investchem Formula 1600 races as part of the full National Extreme Festival at Aldo Scribante, which is a fine EP venue to enjoy great racing. Sounds like a plan?
