Motorsport book praised by racers, historian and fans
The new book, South African Champion is drawing praise from all quarters. Former racing heroes, race fans and historians alike have praised the quality new coffee table reference work celebrating South Africa’s epic Grand Prix, Formula 1, Single Seater and Specials saga.
“South African Champion is so much more than I ever thought it would be,” Jody Scheckter, South Africa’s 1979 Formula 1 World Champion acknowledged. Jody, who also wrote the somewhat telling foreword, is relishing in the history portrayed in the book. “I’m enjoying reliving all the stories in the book and reading about others for the first time. I can’t wait for what comes next. Well done!”
Elder brother Ian Scheckter, himself a six-time South African Champion is similarly obsessed with his South African Champion book. “I am especially intrigued by all the mostly forgotten stories from the early 1950’s, when I first started watching motorsport as a 5 year old boy,” Ian admitted. “The book looks fantastic and I know I’ll really enjoy reading and seeing all the facts and pictures.”
Another South African Champion, 1982 winner Graham Duxbury was also taken aback on receiving his copy. “Wow, what can I say!” Dux responded. “South African Champion is such an important tribute to an incredible motor racing history that has never been properly recorded before. It covers all the important details and records so much history that would otherwise be forgotten. Bravo!”
Several other enthusiasts are reporting their satisfaction with the new book on its discussion group, www.facebook.com/groups/sachampion/ “South African Champion is book number 616 in my private motorsport library,” aficionado Tony Richardson explains. “Having read it for a few weeks now, I rate it very highly, not only amongst the best local motorsport books, but easily among my top ten international books. Long overdue as an historical and reference book, South African Champion is a masterpiece.
“Full of data, the book records not only who was champion in any given year, but also who the national race winners were, while all finishers are listed per event. The book covers every South African Grand Prix, as well A1GP and the Masters. It summarises all the non-championship winners from the pre-championship handicap years, while Formula Ford, Vee, GTi and VW of the more recent past are not forgotten either.”
“I have received my copy of South African Champion in the UK,” South African single seater racing enthusiast Andrew Harris confirmed. “Delivery was very quick and the book arrived very well packaged and in tip top condition. It looks great and I’m looking forward to reading South African Champion over the summer months. I would recommend to anyone thinking about getting the book to buy it.”
“My copy of South African Champion arrived very quickly after ordering,” another British buyer and former South African race driver Shane De Meillon confirmed. “The book was extremely well packaged; it is of very high quality with fantastic photos and articles and is keeping me wonderfully entertained. Thank you!”
“We are most humbled by early response to South African Champion,” Author Michele Lupini admits. “ Sales have been brisk, but what’s really heartening is the universal positive reaction we’ve had from buyers once they’ve received their copies. All of which makes the huge effort that went into publishing South African Champion all that much more worth the while.”
