Polo Cup star Charl Visser’s fifth SA kart title

Cape Town race driver Charl Michael Visser may be more in focus for his race winning CompCare Polo Cup national pace these days, but the Durbanville teenager continues to star at his first love of karting. Charl completed a most impressive come from behind run to clinch the National Rotax Senior Max karting championship, his fifth South African karting title over the weekend. He secured a SA National Team seat for November’s World Finals.

“I went karting to keep sharp and fit for my main circuit racing this year,” Charl admitted. “We concentrated on the Rotax Senior Max Nationals, and took a conservative approach, concentrating on consistency rather than just speed in a tough and highly competitive class. “Happily, it paid off in the end! “I won a couple of heats along the way and scored a few seconds, but eight podiums in the ten races that count, clinched the championship.

“Now I can’t wait to represent South Africa at the ‘Olympics of Karting’ Rotax Max Grand Finals in Portugal in November, where I will continue with my consistent approach. “That should be fun! “I have two vital races before that though. “It’s my home Polo Cup round for Universal Racing at Killarney Saturday 17 September and the Polo finals a month later. “We’re in a strong position there too, so we have a most interesting few weeks ahead!

“Special thanks to my main men Zefrey and Bigshow for the prep on my kart, to my dad, mom and brother Kyle for all the support, Boyd Boss freight, Etienne at RKT, and to everyone who makes my racing possible. “This Senior Max championship is for you!”
