Red-Lined Motorsport enjoyed a thrilling Simola Hillclimb debut when the team came home from Knysna with a pair of unexpected podiums over the weekend. The South African international race car manufacturer entered five of its FIA Dakar off-road racers in the prestigious hill climb, where two of them found their way onto their class podium.

“What an incredible weekend at the Simola Hillclimb!” Red-Lined CEO Terence Marsh beamed. “We embarked on a completely different adventure on totally foreign terrain and not only came home smiling from ear to ear, but also managed to bring back some silverware while we were at it. This prestigious event gave us the opportunity to mix with a different crowd, make some new friends and show everyone what we are actually all about.

“While this was mainly a marketing initiative, it was rather rewarding to score a double podium in the process,” Marsh continued. Philip Botha drove his Penta Motor Group powered Red-Lined Revo T1+ V8 meticulously to grab the sport utility vehicle class B09 silver medal while Terence grabbed the bronze medal in the Red-Lined Revo T1+ GTR. 

“We were up against some seriously powerful super-SUVs on fit for purpose road tyres while we were running all-terrain tyres courtesy of BFGoodrich” Marsh added. “We did obviously try and run a more tarmac type set-up but our race cars in these types of conditions are basically like a fish out of the water!

“The new BFGoodrich KO3 tyres were seriously impressive, considering we took Dakar DNA to a tarmac stage. Grip levels are everything with the kind of power these race cars put down and the KO3s certainly delivered. From grip and traction to overall car control, they gave us the confidence to push harder and get the most out of every run.

“Philip, Abrie Olivier and his VAPS HCV Insurance team mates Peet Victor and Tyler Botha and our entire team enjoyed a brilliant and rewarding weekend where we were warmly welcomed and were able to show off our Red-Lined range of machinery from our iconic T1 VK’s to our newer generation REVO T1+ race cars. “We got to experience what is clearly South Africa’s biggest and best motorsport event and we enjoyed every minute of it.” 

“Hopefully we also did enough to attract many of our new friends and followers that we acquired over the weekend to support our South African Rally-Raid Championship into the future. Now we go from the predictable tarmac back to our unpredictable off road as we transition our race cars back to their natural rally-raid set up as we head over to Louvain this weekend to tackle the Outeniqua 600, first round of the South African Championship.”
