Last chance to steal the South African Touring Cars title?
Chemical Logistics Racing heads to the Cape looking to keep the South African Touring Cars championship chances open at the Killarney International Raceway’s penultimate Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola for 2025 on Saturday 13 September. Three of the team’s four drivers remain in title contention, so the message is clear, keep those prospects open at Killarney!
Killarney home hero Julian van der Watt leads the Chemical Logistics charge aboard his WCT-run Volkswagen Golf GTI. “We had our best outing last time out at East London, so we’re hoping for more of the same this weekend,” Julian points out. “I struggled somewhat earlier in the season however, and that’s had an effect on the championship where my main rival has been more consistent. Which leaves it all to play at home where I plan to really give my Killarney supporters something to shout about.”
Van der Watt’s biggest threat from behind comes from within his Chemical Logistics WCT Volkswagen Golf GTI squad, with rookie teammate Jagger Robertson way too close to comfort in third in the chase. “I’ve enjoyed a consistent season so far,” Jagger explains. “So we’re in a strong championship third, to which my burning desire to win my first South African Touring Car race will certainly add impetus. Let’s just say that I cannot wait for Killarney!”
Touring Cars rookie and 2024 SATC SupaCup runner up Keegan Campos delivered a stellar chase aboard his Campos Transport FAST Racing BMW 328tc, but that came to an end when he suffered a forgettable weekend at East London. “We made up huge ground and then it all fell apart last time out,” Keegan explains. “We still have a chance though, but we’ll need a perfect weekend at Killarney and that’s precisely what we’ll be aiming to do. Let’s do this!”
Andrew Schofield will be looking to capitalise on his best outing of the season last time out his FlySafair Chemical Logistics FAST BMW 328tc: “East London was something of a breakthrough after a rather unlucky season before that,” Andy owned up. “So the plan is to keep the ball rolling at Killarney this weekend.”
“Three of our drivers are still in the title fight, but the man we have to beat has a pretty strong championship advantage,” team principal Ian Schofield concludes. “We still have a numbers advantage, so the objective is to have as many of our guys ahead each time the flag falls at Killarney. So here’s to some epic action on track. Good luck team!”
