Wolk King of the Hill, Schofield conquers classics
Team Investchem once again made the Simola hillclimb its own over the weekend. Ian Schofield dominated Friday’s Classic Conqueror before Robert Wolk emerged overall King of the Hill with the fastest time of the weekend in Sunday’s finale.
Wolk drove the team’s Investchem Gould GR55 hillclimb special to an incredible 35.024 second 195.295 km/h winning run. Schofield’s faultless climb in his ex-Nols Nieman 1977 South African Formula Atlantic March 77B Cosworth BDD delivered an impressive 40.881 second 167.315 km/h pass for a 66-year old driving a 44 year old machine!
Then to round off a perfect weekend, Team Investchem lass Simphiwe Mohlahlo not only raced her Investchem MSA4 to class C1 single seater honours, but she was the quickest lady racer at the 2026 Simola Hillclimb.
Despite his win, Wolk was still a little peeved at his performance. “Damn, that was so close to the 34-second run we’d hoped for!” Robert grinned following his fortieth of a second miss. “Still, we made great progress throughout and it was a major step forward. There’s definitely room for improvement next year.”
Ian Schofield closed off a perfect weekend for Team Investchem when he ended overall single seater runner-up in his Mygale Formula Ford. The team patron was however even more excited by his Friday Classic Conqueror victory. “We kept improving the car and set-up, the team did a great job and we saved the best for last,” Ian explained.
“That final run was almost perfect too, so it all came together very well and for a very close win. This was my second Classic Conqueror with the March, but we’re already looking ahead to next year when we’ll have something different for Classic Car Friday. See you then!”
