All eyes on Mo as Polo Cup heads to Zwartkops

Johannesburg race driver Mohammed Karodia arrives at his home Zwartkops Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola on Saturday 21 June in a strong Astron Energy Polo Cup title chase lead. But that’s no given, considering the Pretoria racetrack is also home to most of his rivals. And they all have knives out for young Mo.

Fast 5 Motorsport racer Karodia went unbeaten last time out, while most of his championship rivals struggled. He left Aldo Scribante with a 25-point championship advantage over Lee Thompson Racing teammate Ethan Coetzee’s ECR Polo. The thing about Zwartkops is that those rivals also all very well know their way around the place.

So expect Industry Petroleum man Rory Atkinson, AF Fans lass Tyler Robinson and top series rookies, Durban Dubcorp driver Shiren Rajpaul and Volkswagen Rookie Cup champion Judd Bertholdt to all be right on point at Big Z. Another circuit expert, Dainfern Dental doctor Hannes Scheepers will be out to avenge his recent title slump. And Sabertek lad Charl Smalberger will want to finally get his season on song too.

Behind them, Roshaan Goodman follows from Production X Rookie Cup graduate Dhivyen Naidoo, with top 2024 Polo Cup Rookie Kyle Visser’s Charl Engineering car chasing him. Kyalami Exhausts lad Nirav Singh follows from Insurisk newcomer Anthony Lessing, who may just shock at Zwartkops. Team Red rookie Milan Emslie is also rapidly finding his feet.

If you’re looking for an Astron Energy Polo Cup surprise at Zwartkops, look no further than KM lady racer Lonika Maartens, whose position gives no clue of her capability following a torrid season so far. Pierluigi Muzzulini’s FSS International entry, big brother Bjorn Bertholdt’s Sizanani Plastics car will also be out for redemption following their weekends to forget at Aldo. And Bevin Masters is simply waiting to turn 50 to graduate to Astron Energy Masters in his CPS Warehouse Polo.

Speaking of the Astron Energy Polo Masters, Performance Master elder brother Wayne Masters seems in full control. But that’s never anything to rely on in motor racing. He has John Kruger’s Habot Lubricants Polo and the consistent Derick Smalberger, chasing him down. PABAR man Mike Barbaglia also too close for comfort, while Norbrake driver Gavin Ross, Roberto Franco’s Graphix Supply Polo, and Elio Muzzulini’s FSS International car in their own battle for the Masters fifth place.

Astron Energy Polo Cup races as part of a full and exciting Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola race program on Saturday 21 June. The meeting will also be live streamed via Volkswagen Motorsport and Extreme Festival social media. See you at Zwartkops!
