South African motocross star still at it 25 years later

South African Motocross legend Ryan Hunt is back in England to compete in this weekend’s VMXdN Veteran Motocross des Nations event. Hunt will represent the Isle of Man at Foxhill near Swindon in his seventh VMXdN outing, this year aboard a Nick Pritchett Racing year 2000 Tork Craft Yamaha YZ 250 two-stroke.

“I am honoured to be drafted into the Manx team alongside Danny McCanney and Josh Spinks for this year’s Veteran Motocross des Nations”, Ryan explains. “I truly love this event and always go back for it – it has an amazing atmosphere and is so well supported by spectators and fans. Best of all, two-Strokes rule the weekend and there are only classes for older bikes on the program.”

Multiple former South African Champion Ryan today rides in the over-50 category. He already travelled to the UK for the World Vets, late in July 2024. “I raced a little holeshot.com Motorhomes Tork Craft GasGas 150 two-stroke in the World Vets 50+ MX2 class as part of my VMXdN build-up,” Ryan looked back. “Richard from holeshot really set the bike well and it was such fun to ride.

“I had to however push pretty hard to keep up with the 250’s, 450’s and 500s on the little 150, but the changeable weather with some sunshine and a race or two in typical Blighty drizzle helped. I was delighted to ride home in fifth and eighth and got some great saddle time in, ahead of this weekend’s VMXdN.”

Saturday’s Foxhill Veteran Motocross des Nations sees fifteen teams from around the world represented by international motocross legends of the 1990s and 2000s riding period machinery on a tough and demanding  track. Just as it was when they raced in the Motorcross des Nations back in the day.
