Chemical Logistics Racing is in a strong position as it heads to Killarney’s sixth round South African Touring Cars races in Cape Town on Saturday 19 September. With 34 points needed to be sure of the title, Julian van der Watt leads teammate KC Ensor-Smith by 24 points. But with their closest rivals sitting 36 points behind, all Julian needs do is maintain his current advantage to ensure a team championship, as only KC would be able to catch him from there.

“The Volkswagen side of our garage has enjoyed a great South African Touring Car year,” Chemical Logistics Racing team patron Ian Schofield confirmed. “The way it is, if Julian can consolidate his position to our closest rivals in third, then it should be down to him and KC for the championship. KC’s biggest challenge is probably Keegan Campos in the best of our BMWs, considering his progress since his late start and Andy is not far behind in the second 128ti. But the biggest danger of all is Robert. Best of luck to all!”

Leader van der Watt is taking nothing for granted. “If anything, my cruel luck over my past few seasons of South African Touring Cars has taught me, is that there’s never a guarantee,” Julian pondered. “What I do know is that I have a great WTC team behind me, and a brilliant car in my We Buy Cars Investchem WCT Volkswagen Golf GTI. So we need to just take it one step at a time and whether it’s at home at Killarney, or a month later at Zwartkops, the main objective is to be in front at the end.”

Rookie sensation KC Ensor-Smith won his first ever race and has kept van der Watt on his toes up front with consistent strong results in his African Heating Investchem WCT Golf GTI. “We were a little concerned that we won our first South African Touring Cars so soon, in that it may take time for the next one, but I’m ready for that now, ten races later!” KC smiled. “Our main objective is however the championship, so we just need to do whatever we have to, to protect my second place or even improve on it.”

Keegan Campos has quietly piled on the points since his late start in the Campos Veloce Chemical Logistics FAST BMW. Many now see him as Ensor-Smith’s strongest challenger for the championship runner-up slot. “Second three times in the last four races has been good,” Keegan reflected. Now it’s time to go one better!” 

Andrew Schofield is looking to the reverse grid second race to score in his FlySafair Chemical Logistics FAST BMW 128ti. “We won like that at Zwartkops,” Andy admitted. “I can’t think of a better place to repeat that than at Killarney!” And Robert Wolk is just looking for a break in the Cape. “We’ve had more than our fair share of issues of late, so there’s no better remedy for that, than to win. Especially at Killarney,” He concludes.
