Two points between top three headed to Red Star

With just two championship points between the ATE VW Challenge top three, and two rounds left to race, all eyes will be on the Red Star Raceway for the penultimate sixth round of the Gauteng Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola on Saturday 4 October.

The greatest action will be in Class C, where young gun Adriaan de Beer’s Ukwazi Engineering car still leads the log, but now by just a point from Bryce Pillay. Polo Cup regular Bryce started a round late, but has charged back into championship contention, both in Brat Pack Class C, and overall. Neither has any fiddle room however, with Stuart Mack’s turbo-litre Autozone Tour Plan Class B car right there in the reckoning.

De Beer and Pillay can also expect more than their fair share of in-Class C competition in Delmas. The likes of ever-improving newcomer Stuart Konig’s Northern Bolt & Tool entry, Andy Gossman back in his older new Goose Motorsport Polo Vivo, Insurisk lad Dimitri Zapheriou and Philip Croeser, will be among others aiming to more than just make their mark down Red Star way this weekend.

Stuart Mack’s biggest challenge has been less entries in his Class B versus Class C, where enough cars on the grid allow full points to be allocated. Mack also has stronger recent class competition from Francis Aldrich, who put his normally aspirated 2-litre Vaporworx Polo on the Class B pole and won a heat last time. Northern Bolt & Tool lad Jonathan Konig and Chris Davison’s Generator Services car are also itching for a win.

Jayden Goosen’s AA Certified Polo 6R had it all his own way out front on tour last time out in Class A, but he will have to work for it this time around. Class champion, Challenge veteran Wayne Masters is back in his Performance Master Polo this weekend, while Elna Croeser has entered her ATE Brakes version, and Dewald Theron is the first of several returning to Class A in his new Commercial Towing ARD machine.

ATE VW Challenge races as part of a full springtime Regional Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola program at Red Star, backed by live music and entertainment, stalls, and all the expected good food and refreshments on Saturday 4 October. Find Red Star heading east out of Gauteng just off exit 485 on the N12 freeway.
