Team in title fights across SA Touring Cars field

Chemical Logistics Racing heads to the iconic East London Grand Prix Circuit’s Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola for the fifth of seven South African Touring Cars  championship rounds on Saturday 19 July. With its five cars fighting battles throughout the field, the team is chasing best results to enhance those standings across the board.

Touring Cars rookie and 2024 SATC SupaCup runner up Keegan Campos has taken over as the team’s leading challenger, now second in the chase aboard his Campos Transport FAST Racing BMW 328tc. “I’ve made up huge ground in the three of the four rounds I have raced and we’re now second,” Keegan explains. “Our challenge is that leader Michael van Rooyen stemmed my charge with equal results last time, so I must outscore him again this weekend to keep myself in the fight for the title win. Let’s do it!”

Chemical Logistics WCT Volkswagen Golf GTI duo, rookie Jagger Robertson and veteran Julian van der Watt sit third and fourth in the chase in what’s becoming an epic duel for third in the championship. “Zwartkops was a tough weekend, and I’m also still chasing my first Touring Car win,” Robertson admits. “So I need to bounce back at East London, where hopefully we can also challenge for that first win.” Van der Watt is also chasing his first win of the season. “We’ve had some power issues, which we have now hopefully solved,” Julian explains. “So here’s to a winning weekend!”

Andrew Schofield has not had the best of luck in his FlySafair Chemical Logistics FAST BMW 328tc so far this season, but the Safair Boeing pilot is pleased with his recent gains in pace. “I am edging closer and closer to the pace but now all I need is a little better luck. Hopefully we will find some of that at the Grand Prix Circuit!” Another Formula 1600 graduate Siyabonga Mankonkwana is also getting on top of his Investchem FAST Toyota Corolla: “It’s been a big step, but I’m now far more comfortable and I love East London, so here’s to a big step forward on Saturday!”

“East London is always a completely different racing weekend on a fast, tricky and challenging racetrack, but the lads are ready and we know what we have to do at the Grand Prix Circuit,” team principal Ian Schofield concludes. “I for one, am looking forward to something really special on Saturday.”
