One point splits leaders Karodia & Coetzee in title chase

It’s tight at the top as the Astron Energy Polo Cup heads to Aldo Scribante’s Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola for its home round in Gqeberha on Saturday 10 May. A stone’s throw from the Volkswagen Plant Kariga and Motorsport headquarters, the tight and demanding, yet quick Scribante is sure to deliver thrills and spills as always.

Log leader Ethan Coetzee has won one race aboard his Fast 5 Motorsport LTR Polo, but his consistency sees him all of a single point ahead of old Fast Five LTR rival Mohammed Karodia, the only double winner so far this Polo Cup season. One of the sensations of 2025, AF Fans lass Tyler Robinson is another race winner. She sits a relatively lonely third, ten points adrift in the chase and five points clear of another tight battle for fourth.

That’s between Dainfern Dental driver, Dr Hannes Scheepers, still chasing his maiden Astron Energy Polo Cup victory, two points ahead of lightning fast Industry Petroleum man Rory Atkinson and the only other driver to win a race so far this season. Behind them, Dubcorp Durban rookie Shiren Rajpaul has impressed, while fellow first season lad, Volkswagen Rookie Cup champion Judd Bertholdt improves by the session.

Astron Energy Volkswagen driver Bertholdt has the distinction of leading his Rookie Cup predecessor Kyle Visser’s Charl Engineering Polo in the chase. Sabertek entry Charl Smalberger’s championship position is perhaps not indicative of his pace so far. He sits ninth ahead of another Rookie Cup graduate Dhivyen Naidoo’s Production X Polo. Roshaan Goodman follows from Kyalami Exhausts lad Nirav Singh, Pierluigi Muzzulini’s FSS International entry, big brother Bjorn Bertholdt’s Sizanani Plastics car and Team Red rookie Milan Emslie.

Anthony Lessing thoroughly impressed on debut in his Insurisk car last time out. On the other hand, if anyone could do with a little luck, its KM lady racer Lonika Maartens following her season to forget so far. Bevin Masters Cup is another quick new driver to look out for following a brisk first outing in his CPS Warehouse Polo last time out.

Moving on to the Astron Energy Polo Masters, it’s all about Performance Master driver Wayne Masters, who has four wins and a third place to his name in the five heats raced so far this season. John Kruger’s Habot Lubricants Polo, the only Master to beat Wayne, sits tied for second in the chase with the consistent Derick Smalberger, who’s scored four seconds and a third place. PABAR man Mike Barbaglia, Roberto Franco’s Graphix Supply Polo, Norbrake driver Gavin Ross and Elio Muzzulini’s FSS International car are scrapping for the Masters fourth.

Astron Energy Polo Cup races twice at the Aldo Scribante raceway as part of a full and exciting Extreme Festival race program on Saturday 10 May. The races will also be live streamed via Volkswagen Motorsport and Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola social media.
