Duminy relishing racing on familiar ground

Daniel Duminy is keen to put his Global Touring Cars baptism of fire at Dezzi Raceway behind him as he heads to a happy hunting ground for the second round of the series at Zwartkops outside Pretoria Saturday 6 March. The Ballito teenager was thrown in the deep end for his GTC debut at an unfamiliar racetrack last time out and he can’t wait to race in familiar territory next weekend.

“I may live up the road from Dezzi, so to say,” Daniel explained. “But I had not driven there very much before, so that made my first outing in the most powerful and quickest car I have ever raced double trouble to deal with. “This weekend will be different - Zwartkops may be far from home, but it is more my home track.

“My SMD VMR Racing team and our BMW 2 Series are based at the Pretoria circuit and I have practiced and raced many laps there, so I am really looking forward to settling down to my first GTC race weekend at a track I know and understand far better. “The team has put a lot of effort in, I have spent more laps testing and I’m far more comfortable in the car now, so bring it on — see you at Zwartkops on Saturday!”
