Killarney finale delivers WP champions, top action

The Western Province Rotax Max Challenge concluded its 2026 regional season in fine style with a thrilling day of splendid racing at the Killarney Kart Track on Saturday. With titles on the line and regional silverware up for grabs, the final round crowned six new Cape champions, while one remains subject to final points scoring confirmation.

Veterans Jason Coetzee and Charl Visser shared the spoils in premier DD2 gearbox action. Coetzee took the opening and final heats to edge race two winner Visser for the day’s overall win by three points. Tony Auby edged a delighted and consistent newly crowned 2026 Western Province DD2 champion Matthew Wadeley for the final podium spot, with Ethan Stier right in their wheeltracks in fifth.

DD2 Masters was all about Jared Jordan. He sped to an emphatic triple win to cement his 2026 Western Province DD2 Masters championship in commanding style. Conor Hughes took a clean sweep of second places ahead of Marco Viegas, Michael Jordan, Justin Rogers, and Neville Chapman.

Keagan Beaumont dominated Senior Max with three lights-to-flag heat victories to take the day. Second overall was more than enough for Sebastiano Human, who took three second places to wrap up the 2026 Western Province Senior Max title. Behind them, William Marshall, Jesse Swart, Onwabile Mcinga, Daniel Labuschagne, Jordon Wadeley, and Matthew Carter rounded out the top eight in a hard-fought field.

High school Junior Max delivered a masterclass from newly crowned 2026 Western Province champion Max Boshoff, who capped his dominant season with a clean sweep of heat victories. Upcountry visitor Brodi Dowling and Michael Danks tied on points for second, with Dowling taking the nod on countback, ahead of Alanzo Dias, Justin Milleskie, and Jose Slamet.

Under-13 Mini Max was once again a battle royal. Liam Wharton took the overall honours on the day with a win in race one and solid podiums thereafter. Jayden van der Merwe pipped heat two winner Radhi Harris for second, with final heat winner Logan Roehrig in fourth. Further down the order, Ruhan Victor did enough to secure the 2026 Western Province Mini Max championship crown as he came home ahead of Michael O’Mahoney, Zac Boshoff, Jake Steyn, and Juan Stander.

Slater Smith was untouchable in under-11 Micro Max, speeding to a faultless triple heat victory. Yaseen Panday took second ahead of Lehan Fourie, Zaid Panday, and Caleb Lingeveldt. The 2026 Western Province Micro Max championship remains subject to official confirmation pending a scoring review.

Sebastian Fletcher dominated baby Bambino with a brace of heat wins to take the day from newly crowned 2026 Western Province champion Blake van Deventer, who sealed his title with victory in the final heat. Zeeva Strydom completed the overall podium ahead of Remi Coxon, Yusuf Panday, and Liam Ludwig.

“Congratulations to all our 2026 Western Province Rotax Max champions on an outstanding season of competitive, high-class racing,” Rotax Max Challenge South Africa’s Jennifer Murray concluded. “The standard at Killarney has been exceptional all year. Now all eyes turn to Portugal, where our South African champions head off to represent the nation at the ‘Olympics of Karting’ Rotax Max Grand Finals in Portimão next week!”
