De Oliveira adds a hard fought Micro title

He may not yet be ten years old, but Cape Town kart racer Joaquin de Oliveira is already a double karting champion at such a tender age. Reigning Western Province under-8 Cadet champion De Oliveira stepped up to the WP under-11 Micro Max championship this year and promptly went on to drive his ESA Partner FA kart to a very hard fought back-to-back title in his rookie year.

“Wow that was a tough season!” Joaquin admitted. “We fought so hard all year so it was never easy, but I had a very good team and we pulled it off in the end. “I only won one race, but I finished all the races when some of the other guys won more races but they had more problems than we did. “There were so many winners through the season too, but I just kept my head down and did my best and it paid off in the end — I am very happy to be champion in my first year of Micro Max!

“Thanks to all my rivals — Reza Levy, Valentino Hoffman, Ethan Stier, Mischa Williams, Reese Koorzen, Julius Schwager, Denis Joubert and all the others for a great season on the track. “I must also thank my sponsors, ESA Partner, Kito Perdigao for all his help and advice on the kart and to my parents who make it all possible — I really hope I have made them all proud!”
