Pole position on Grand final debut

South African Rotax Max Grand Final rookie Luca Munaretto enjoyed a brilliant start to his campaign when he slotted his kart onto pole position for his opening heat before racing to a fine sixth in the race.

Despite being just fourteen years old and competing in the open age group DD2 class, Munaretto quickly found his feet and was immediately on the pace, which he converted to a fine pole position. “That caught me a bit by surprise,” Luca admitted. “The Rotax Max Grand Finals cater only for the champions in each class and we all race identical machinery, so it’s all about the driver here, so I am really proud of my pole position!”

Luca concentrated on getting to the finish of the race and drove home seventh in a hard-fought race. “The race was all about keeping closer to the sharper side of the field and to move forward one heat at a time, to get into the Pre-Final and then the Final. “We have a long way to go…"
