Zwartkops endurance race will test affordable cars
It’s time for something completely different at Zwartkops Raceway once again as the Pretoria racetrack prepares for its fifth Zwartkopanapolis 500 endurance race on Saturday 22 August. The annual 500-mile, or 800 kilometre race is a fun event limited to production cars worth R70,000, each driven by teams of up to five drivers.
With drivers from across the racing board sharing all forms of cars from Zwartkops’ regular SuperHatch, Digit 111, Clubmans and Supercup categories, as well as Lemons series competitors and others built specifically for the Zwartkopanapolis weekend, the 500 is as much about consistency as it is strategy and reliability.
Inspired by the 1990s Zwartkops 500 Relays, as much as its race distance draws from the Indianapolis 500, the Zwartkopanapolis 500 is all about fun, affordable racing, and maximum spectator entertainment. Racing over 500 laps means eight hours of non-stop overtaking action to test braking, cooling, and tyres to their ultimate limit.
Limited to a maximum of 33 entries racing nonstop around the short 2.4 kilometre Zwartkops Raceway, action is non-stop. Qualifying happens in two sessions Friday evening and first thing Saturday morning. Split into three two and a half hour sessions, the race starts just after 9 am and runs until about five o’clock Saturday afternoon.
With non-stop track action and Zwartkops’ spectator and braai friendly amphitheatre atmosphere perfect for close-quarter viewing, what better way to celebrate the imminent arrival of spring than at the 500 on Saturday 22 August. Visit zwartkops.co.za to learn more. See you at Zwartkops!
