The short and twisty Aldo Scribante racetrack not only delivered incredible action as Gauteng’s Northern Regions Extreme Festival visited the Gqeberha circuit for its annual away races, but it also served to shake up most to the visiting championships on Saturday. The Dunlop V8 Supercars head home too close to contemplate, the ATE VW Challenge and BMW M Performance Parts Series delivered surprise winners, the DOE Formula Vee championship leaders suffered a weekend to forget and the Digit FMS 111s delivered two different winners in a race meeting to remember.

Terry Wilford’s Mustang lapped in under a minute and two seconds to claim the Dunlop V8 Supercar pole position over Warren Lombard’s similar. Wilford romped to the first of three race wins over Lombard, Thomas Reib’s Corvette, dad Larry’s Falcon, GT2 winner Steve Herbst’s Corvette and local man Gerald Beech. Terry then beat Franco Di Matteo’s Jaguar, Spicer, Beech, Herbst and Lombard as leader Reib retired to leave him, Terry and Lombard tied in the championship lead. Rieb however broke the tie with a close final race win from Terry and Lombard, Di Matteo, Spicer, Beech, and Herbst.

Rookie Joshua Moore came out on top in the opening  ATE VW Challenge race from Ian Walker, Christopher Tait, and surprise pole man Francis Aldrich. Sebastian Bouilliart held Jonathan Konig off by all of two tenths of a second for the Class B win as Andy Gossman overcame pole lady Elna Croeser for a close C win. Moore had his work cut out as he fought back to beat Tait to a close in double in race 2 as Aldrich made a late pass on Walker for third, Bouilliart held Corbett off in Class B and Croeser gained revenge on Gossman in C.

Late starter Lee Thompson continued his winning BMW M Performance Parts Series Turbo Class A run as class leader Anton Pommersheim did what he had to in second from Leon Lobser. Ethan Coetzee beat Wessel Mostert in Class B, Reinhart Miller held Oz Biagioni off in C and Sayen Moodley won Class D. Race 2 saw the same top three but Mostert and Biagioni turned the tables on Coetzee and Miller as Moodley won D again. Richard Gerntholtz beat class leader Andre van Vuuren and Ignus du Plessis to the first Naturally Aspirated BMW win as local wildcard Tim Ball won Class C and Henry Platt Class D. Van Vuuren beat Gerntholtz to race 2 as Ball and Platt did C and D doubles.

Jaco Schriks, Kyle Watt, Gert van den Berg and Peter Hills turned the DOE Formula Vee partnered with CIM Fuel form book on its head when they held second man Brandon Hills and log leader Lendl Jansen off to take the cracking opening race top four. Schriks went on to do the double from Watt, van den Berg, Peter and Brandon Hills, MD Bester, Theodore Vermaak and Jansen. Peter Hills then fought Schriks, Watt and Brandon Hills off to win a spectacular finale with van den Berg, Vermaak and Vaughn Hills in chase. Jansen’s day went from bad to worse to blow the championship wide open.

Wayne Robb’s Focus ST took the opening Digit FMS 111 win from GTA rivals, Mark du Toit’s BMW Z4M and Jared Rossouw’s Polo as Jonathan Visser won GTB. Lindsay Clur’s Golf was first saloon home from Melanie Spurr’s Polo, Tihan van Rooyen’s BMW and B winner Piet Potgieter’s Golf. Polo trio, Troy Starr won Class C, Mimi Le Roux D and Arthur Thorne SuperHatch. Du Toit led Rossouw home in race 2 after Robb stopped and Clur did the double over van Rooyen. Potgieter took Class B, Henry van Vledder’s Golf C and Thorne Superhatch.
