SupaCup grand slam puts Mogotsi in title contention

Volkswagen Motorsport enjoyed a dominant outing at the Zwartkops Raceway’s Extreme Festival presented by Coca-Cola over the weekend. Reigning SATC SupaCup champion Jonathan Mogotsi raced his way back into 2025 title contention with a double victory off pole position at the Pretoria racetrack, aided and abetted all the way by teammate Jason Loosemore. Volkswagen Motorsport Rookie Judd Bertholdt meantime closed the day off with a brilliant second overall in the Astron Energy Polo Cup.

“Zwartkops must be the best weekend we have enjoyed in a while! “ Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe admitted. “Jonathan Mogotsi was in imperious form throughout. He drove himself straight back into title contention with a double victory off pole position, backed all the way by Jason Loosemore, who played the perfect team role en route to an overall 1-2 in SupaCup. Our cup flowed over when Astron Energy Polo Cup rookie Judd Bertholdt ended a splendid second overall in Astron Energy Polo Cup to wrap up a glorious weekend of racing.”

2024 SATC SupaCup champion Jonathan Mogotsi was delighted with his best result of the season so far. “Super happy! It’s been a long time since I’ve had a double victory at Zwartkops. In fact I think this is actually my first, so a huge moment for the team,” Mogotsi pointed out. “My teammate Jason also performed really well and helped steal a few points away from our main rival in heat 1, so we made some really good progress today. We’re only halfway through the season though, so it’s still all to do – let’s do it!”

SupaCup rookie and Astron Energy Polo Cup champion Jason Loosemore was delighted to continue with his forwards momentum as he drove home second in the first SATC SupaCup heat and third in the second, to stand on the third step of the podium for the day. “Zwartkops was probably my best outing in SupaCup so far,” Richards Bay oval track expert and reigning Astron Energy Polo Cup champion Jason reported. “Best of all, I was able to help Jonathan’s championship cause a little today, and all my hard work with my incredible Volkswagen Motorsport is paying off. Now I can’t wait for my next outing in my Astron Energy Volkswagen Motorsport Polo SupaCup.”

Rookie Cup champion and Volkswagen Motorsport driver Judd Bertholdt’s hard work through three fraught Astron Energy Polo Cup heats paid off with a splendid second overall on Saturday: “I slipped up a little in qualifying in my Rookie Cup Polo, which meant I had some work to do in the races in my Astron Energy Polo Cup” Judd admitted. “I just put my head down and drove my heart out and at the end of the day, I popped up second overall, which was as big a surprise as it was a thrill!”

“We have worked hard through the season to head to the fifth round at East London in July with Jonathan fighting for the lead of the SATC SupaCup and Judd chasing third, and still in strong Astron Energy Polo Cup title contention,” Mike Rowe concluded. “Congratulations to our entire team on an exceptional effort!”
