Rookie Bertholdt the star of the show in Polo Cup
Volkswagen Motorsport enjoyed a positive outing at its home race at Aldo Scribante Racetrack, just down the road from Volkswagen Plant Kariega on Saturday. Volkswagen Rookie Cup champion Judd Bertholdt took a second Astron Energy Polo Cup pole position in two races, led the race and ended second en route to third for the day. SATC SupaCup Champion Jonathan Mogotsi scored two podiums to remain in the tight championship chase, while teammate Jason Loosemore enjoyed a fighting day at the office.
“Our Astron Energy Polo Cup rookie Judd Bertholdt was the star of the show today,” Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe admitted. “Judd is learning the Astron Energy Polo Cup ropes very quickly and his performance today suggests, that maiden win is not too far off. Jonathan Mogotsi scored a double podium and a handsome points tally to his championship score and Jason Loosemore enjoyed a positive outing as he starts to come to grips with his Volkswagen SupaPolo.”
Rookie Cup champion and Volkswagen Motorsport driver Judd Bertholdt was delighted with his third outing in the Astron Energy Polo Cup in Gqeberha. “Aldo Scribante was a brilliant weekend with another pole position, second in the second race and third overall,” Bertholdt explained. “I promised before the race that we would come to grips with qualifying in Polo Cup and I proved that with second in the session. Now we need to improve in Superpole. I was very happy with pole for race 2 again and it was great to lead for a couple of laps. Now I just need to stay there next time. Thanks to my team for a brilliant day!”
SATC SupaCup champion Jonathan Mogotsi was hoping for better but satisfied with a strong day at the races none the less. “We lacked a little against the pace guy today, but I will take those points for second and third,” Mogotsi pondered. “I have a great team behind me and we now have a little work to do before the next round and get my Genuine Parts SupaPolo back to the front for the next round at Zwartkops.”
SupaCup rookie and Astron Energy Polo Cup champion Jason Loosemore was satisfied with a step forward at Scribante. “Today was pretty robust in the bunch, but still a step forward for sure,” Jason reflected. “I need to find a little more pace to extract myself from the midfield madness and I have a great team behind me to do that, so here’s to a step onward and upward at Zwartkops.”
“Also, Scribante was a great weekend with all our colleagues from the plant and our local fans supporting the team,” Mike Rowe concludes. “The team enjoyed a good day at the races too, but we have a little work to do to get back to the cutting edge, where we plan to be for Zwartkops on 21 June. See you there!”
