Chemical Logistics Racing enjoyed a splendid change of pace over the weekend as Robert Wolk emerged a dominant King of the Hill overall winner of the Simola Hillclimb. C2 class winner Ian Schofield meanwhile won the C2 class en route to a splendid team single seater 1-2 in the process. Wolk took the day with a 37.133 second run in his C3 class Investchem Pilbeam MP58 Infiniti V8, while Schofield delivered with his class winning 42.048 second effort in his Investchem Formula 1600 Mygale Ford.                       

“What can I say, Kings of the Hill!” an elated Robert Wolk wrapped it up. “It wasn’t a perfect weekend by any means, but it counted when it mattered and now I can add a Simola Hillclimb win to my portfolio,” the double South African Touring Car and multiple South African single seater champion admitted. “The Pilbeam was not fully cooperative throughout the weekend, and electrical issues prevented me from doing all my runs, but what we had was still enough for the overall win.”

Far from the latest technology, the 1989 Pilbeam MP58 is a purpose built hillclimb race car albeit powered by an albeit more contemporary post-2000 IRL Pro Series Infiniti V8. “We have been coming here for years, so it’s great to finally walk away with the all-important King of the Hill award,” Wolk added. “Thanks to the entire team for a splendid effort on a weekend where the old girl really made us work for it!”

“At last, that’s the Simola Hillclimb result we have been chasing for a while,” Chemical Logistics team boss and C2 winner Ian Schofield added. “So to make it a single seater 1-2 and a double class win is that much sweeter. Today also proved just how an effective a race car the Investchem Formula 1600 Mygale SJ is, so we now look forward to how the new MSA4 Volkswagen that takes over as our wings and slicks race car next year, will fare in future.

“This is an award we’ve been chasing for a while, and it’s also important for us to win overall in an event where everyone’s a winner in all the classes…” Schofield concluded.  “So kudos to Robert and the team on a job very well done!” 

Chemical Logistics Racing and the Investchem Formula 1600s now return to regular duty at Zwartkops Raceway’s 18 May third round National Championship Extreme Festival.
