Killarney gears up for WP title round 4

Cape Town’s Rotax Max karters close off the first half of the 2019 Western Province championship at the fourth round of the series at the Killarney Kart Tack on Saturday, where the closest and most exciting racing can be expected as usual.

Jason Coetzee has built up a tidy title lead in the open DD2 gearbox class, but Jonathan Thomas’ consistency sees him well within striking distance. Cousins Sebastian Boyd and Dino Stermin will be looking for a bit of better luck, while Jarryd Evans and Waldo de Wet will be keen to get among the leading pack too. It's closer fought among the DD2 Masters where Conor Hughes holds a slender lead over, Roy Gruer, Marco Viegas, Ernst Viljoen and Harry Georgiou, with Andre Steenkamp and Robert Peche keeping a watching brief.

Charl Visser is in charge of open Senior Max where Kai van Zijl, Simon Simpson-Heath and Storm Lanfear will be out to keep him honest, while Andrew Thomas has impressed so far this season in his tussle with Reece Oellerman. Gary Lennon is the top Max 175 runner for older, heavier lads where he is in a close fight with veteran Johan Hamman and the ever enthusiastic Jarred Jordan.

The testosterone-rich under-15 Junior Max is always worthy of a rise and it’s Troy Dolinschek, who will be out to maintain his title advantage over Tate Bishop and Kyle Visser. Never ignore Storm Lanfear, Tristan Galp, Thaqib Meyer or Luca Wehrli, while brothers Andre and Kyle le Riche and Mikhail Fernandez are all capable of launching a surprise attack.

Ethan Stier is on top of the under-13 Mini Max wrought, but he has a few pretty worthy adversaries to take care of, not least of all Jason MacBeath and Mikhail Fernandez, while Valentino Hoffman, Paul Malcolm and karting lass Mischa Williams can never be left out of this equation.

The under-11 Micro Max gang is the source of regular thrills and there's a regular battle up front between championship leader Reese Koorzen and Reza Levy, with Joshua Smit, Ethan Deacon and Ethan Lennon all in with a shout. Don’t ignore Bambino graduate Luan Mostert, the third Ethan, Stier or Julian Booysen here either.

But the karting babies are putting on the best show in WP karting, where 2019 rookie Jordon Wadeley is off to an incredible maiden under—8 Bambino race season, where he leads the more experienced Luan Mostert and Rayan Karriem, with more hot rookies, Kai van Rensburg and Rebecca Wadeley next up ahead of Matthew Smit and Nikolas Louw.

Battling brothers Jarred and Michael Jordan head up the Clubmans championship log with Sean le Riche, Ross Middleton and Dylan Pelton next up, while there will also be Mini Rok races where Lucas Royston and Joaquin de Oliveira are tied on points ahead of Jason McBeath, Joshua Smit, the three Ethans; Lennon, Deacon and Stier, Eric Norman and Jude Stuart.

Find the Killarney Kart Track on the infield of the main circuit with good food and refreshments available, informative commentary; a cool atmosphere in the pits and great racing on track. Certainly worth a visit.
