Dominant Els storms into championship lead

South Africa’s 2016 Mini Max karting world champion and reigning SA Northern Regions Junior Max champion Jayden Els overcame his recent run of tough luck as he returned to dominant form en route to an emphatic triple Junior Max victory at Vereeniging’s Laserfiche Raceway’s sixth round Northern Regions championship races on Saturday. Els qualified on pole position and raced to three crushing victories as he launched a late charge to move into the championship lead.

“Days like yesterday don’t come often and with the bad luck we’ve had so far this year we are very happy!” Jayden beamed after hopping off the top step of the podium Saturday evening. “We’ve had a few setbacks through the season including an exclusion in the second heat of the year for a spark plug at Zwartkops, so we knew winning this championship was going to be a tall order.

“But these three wins aboard my King Price Xtreme Racing CRG have seen us into the Northern Regions Junior Max championship lead with one meeting left to run. My title rivals Kwanda, Aqil and Daniele all had a tough day at the office, which helped our cause, but we also had two-tenths of a seconds a lap on them through the weekend and we’ll take it!

“I was delighted with those flag-to-flag wins — I got ahead and stayed out of trouble — now we need to carry this speed and good luck forward to the Zwartkops National Final to at least have one clean national without issues too this season and then again at the NR finals in October. “I have to thank our sponsors, King Price and OMP Racing, my dad and our brilliant Extreme team for making all this possible — this really was a good way to show everyone my appreciation!”
