Luke Herring ready to go all the way

Multiple Cape Town karting champion Luke ‘Hurricane’ Herring is in the best form of his life as he hunts down that elusive world title this year and of his performance so far this season is anything to go by, he’s well on track to do just that. Luke on Saturday added another dominant Senior Max win to his WP championship scorecard and now heads to Vereeniging intent on more of the same at national level.

“I am super happy with how Saturday went,” Luke admitted. “We have put a lot of work in behind the scenes after the first regional and by Friday practice we were confident we would be up there even if we were on old tyres and we pulled out a phenomenal lap that hasn’t been seen for a while at Killarney in qualifying on new rubber, which gave me the confidence I needed.

Luke dominated the first race from start to finish in an alarmingly consistent run that saw him set an identical lap time for 11 laps in a row, but an off-track incident came close to ruining his weekend. “A cadet kart engine exploded next to me and a piece of the motor hit my arm and I had to bandaged up by the medics.

“That was a scary moment, but I was feeling really good in the kart and I just repeated what I did in race 1 to bang out consistently fast laps and pull a gap to win races 2 and 3.

“I’d like to thank my dad and everyone who has helped me leading up to this week — my trainer has been smashing me in the gym and it’s really paying off — also a massive word of thanks to my sponsors Red Bull, RKT and all my supporters motivating me every step of the way.

“Now we prepare for the national next weekend where I plan on doing what I did this weekend in up in Gauteng - Bring it on!”
