WRX plans a 2017 Cape Town round
Cape Town's Killarney raceway is set to host a round of the World Rallycross Championship according to a report in this morning's Cape Argus.
The report confirms that WRX promotors are presently in Cape Town with Killarney in pole position to join the 12 races already on the calendar following the recent confirmation of Canada ad Australia to the series.
It is expected that a new WRX circuit will utilise aspects of Killarney's Turn 2 and tar oval and head down to Turn 3 before returning to the oval via a partially dirt track that includes normal track aspects. Which means fans will be able to enjoy the extreme spectacle of WRX racing with Table Mountain as the backdrop...
The WRX series sees the likes of Sebastian Loeb, Petter Solberg, Ken Block and Marcus Ericsson competing in 400kW all-wheel drive top class cars the likes of Peugeot's 208, Citroen DS3, VW Polo, Audi S3 in two-day events building up to a six car-final in a series of short, sharp races.
The report confirms that negotiations are underway to see Killarney holding a round of the world series in late 2017.
