Giordano enjoys a couple of stellar Gqeberha drives

Giordano Lupini delivered a tigerish third round Compcare Polo Cup performance aboard his Bullion IT Racing machine at Aldo Scribante’s Compcare Polo Cup races at the Extreme Festival in Gqeberha on Saturday. Lupini once again made up several positions following a difficult qualifying, as he fought his way to be first turbo Polo Cup rookie home.

“I am delighted with my Saturday,” Gio admitted. “My race pace was great and I had great fun throughout two hard fought races as I made probably twelve overtakes on the day. “I was pinched and had to lift at the start, so dropped back to thirteenth. “From there, I had huge pressure from Lee Thompson after his off, to keep him at bay while I fought back up to eighth. “Lee pipped me at the post, but I worked so hard for those points!

“Race 2 was another hard job from ninth on the grid and another tricky start that dropped me a place or two. “From there, my red Bullion IT Polo was on rails, so I was able to pick them off one by one. “Dean Venter proved the most difficult to properly pass, which lost me some time, but I was still able to climb up to sixth. “Congratulations to my Bullion IT teammate Jurie Swart on a brilliant overall win for the day.

“Unfortunately my Friday never ended as well as we'd planned and we started so far back because I made a small mistake in qualifying. “Which is why I had to fight real hard in both races to make my way out of the mid-pack. “Now we need to fix that qualifying and fight up front and we’ll be working hard to do that before round 4 at Red Star 2 July. “Thanks to the team for a fantastic car, and to Bullion IT for the incredible support!”

The weekend however ended under a cloud when a Volkswagen Motorsport transporter was involved in an accident returning from Gqeberha, claiming the lives of two team members. “On behalf of us all at Bullion IT Racing, we extend our sincere condolences to Roger and Floyd's families, friends and colleagues, and to the entire Volkswagen Motorsport family,” Giordano said.
