Investchem Formula 1600 already proved that it is set for its best season yet at the Killarney season-opener in March. Now SA’s richest racing series heads upcountry with its favourites looking to make good at Zwartkops’ second round at the 23 April National Extreme Festival races. That after brothers Gerard and Antwan Geldenhuys turned the premier SA single seat order on its head with a splendid family 1-2 in the Cape. 

Abacus Divisions Mygale siblings Antwan and Gerard arrive in Pretoria leading the championship by a short head over Killarney's second race winner Josh Le Roux’s Investchem Steelform Art Mygale. Ever consistent Investchem Formula 1600 veteran Nicholas Van Weely sits fourth in his Magnificent Paints & Hardware van Diemen is spite of a tough Killarney outing. Another series master Andrew Schofield also overcame Killarney dramas to score and sit in the middle of a hectic early midfield championship battle.

He has Mygale mounted young guns, Cape Town karting hero Troy Dolinschek’s Sujean Properties car, former Polo Cup pilots, Cape lad Jason Coetzee’s Mint Wraps machine and A&L Handling lad Delon Thompson and Ewan Holtzhausen all over his back. The returning Siyabonga Mankonkwana’s Investchem Mygale, Durban Production X driver Shrien Naidoo and Cape kid, Storm Lanfear’s Investchem Cycle of Life Mygales are also in the hunt, while Macrocomm lass Taya van der Laan is improving with every outing.

Two other familiar Investchem Formula 1600 faces however have big points to prove at Zwartkops. Alex Vos will be keen to put Killarney’s dismal outing in his DVBS Mygale behind him, while 2021 championship runner-up Jarrod Waberski will be out to exorcise his Killarney nightmare with his yellow DAW Mygale. Jarrod has been racing in the British GB4 series with impressive results since that troubled last F1600 race and he should be expected to make a mark at Zwartkops

South Africa’s richest racing championship, Investchem Formula 1600 is a proven breeding ground of future racing talent. The 2022 Investchem champion will take a cool R200,000 home, the runner-up wins R100,000 in cash and third place wins R50,000.
