Consistent young Polo Cup champion Leyton Fourie will have a gang of highly experienced drivers all over his back when he arrives leading the championship for Red Star’s fourth round all-Volkswagen Polo GTC SupaCup races on 2 July. 

“Our Volkswagen Motorsport Polo remains the weapon of choice in SupaCup,” Head of Volkswagen Motorsport Mike Rowe explains. “SupaCup provides a great next step up the racing ladder for our faithful family of Volkswagen customer drivers with the top end of the grid almost exclusively comprising of former Polo Cup champions and frontrunners. Red Star is the midpoint of the 2022 SupaCup season and nobody has really laid claim to the championship yet, so we can look forward to more great racing in Delmas.”

SupaCup rookie Leyton Fourie won the two most recent reverse grid second heats and he has also scored points in each of the six races so far this season in his Express Hire Universal SupaCup. Principal rivals, former Polo Cup double champion Jeffrey Kruger’s Universal Healthcare car and Team Perfect Circle’s Keagan Masters have also both won two races apiece, but both have also failed to score once each. So, it’s advantage Fourie as the circus heads to the Delmas, Mpumalanga racetrack for Round 4.

Behind them, Keegan Campos has also finished every race in the points to sit a positive fourth in the chase aboard his Campos Transport Polo SupaCup. He has another recent Polo Cup graduate, Arnold Neveling’s Pagid Stradale Motorsport machine breathing down his neck. Arnold started a round late, but three solid second places in four points paying finishes have rocketed him up the championship chart to sit an impressive fifth, just ahead of Jason Campos’ Turn 1 Polo.

 

All of them have some fresh competition as Jonathan Mogotsi steps back to SupaCup. Jean-Pierre van der Walt’s Platinum Wheels car and Cape lad Danie van Niekerk’s Titan Stunts machine are next up ahead of Tato Carello. Also keep an eye on Nathan and Damian Hammond’s Trinity Protection cars, Calvin Dias’ Carello Polo, Dawie Joubert, David Franco and Stefan Snyders too.

Gqeberha based Nick Davidson remains unbeaten overall in the Masters class aboard his Stu Davidson Polo in the old man’s class. That does not mean he has not had to work for it. Cape-based Scotsman Paul Luti, who has won two heats and Perfect Circle driver Andre Bezuidenhout have kept Davidson honest throughout.  All of them have another thorn in their sides in Delmas – Iain Pepper returns behind the racing wheel as substitute for Rui Campos and that should add more than just a little spice to the SupaCup Masters race.

GTC SupaCup races as part of a full day of midwinter mid-season fourth round Extreme Festival races at Red Star in Delmas 2 July. Sounds like a perfect midwinter motor racing date!
