Dayne dominates G&H Supercars, Gianni takes GT3

Cape Town youngster Dayne Angel’s Autohaus Angel Porsche 911 GT2 RS made short work of the G&H Transport Extreme Supercars races at the Phakisa Freeway outside Welkom in the Free State on Saturday. Gianni Giannoccaro’s BISC G&H Transport Lamborghini Gallardo took balance of Performance GT3 honours.

Angel put his mighty turbocharged Porsche onto a commanding pole position with a 163 km/h 1 minute 33 lap to eclipse Valentino Rossi’s erstwhile Moto GP pole time ahead of the evergreen Ben Morgenrood’s wild Morgenrood Motors Lexus GT and BMW trio, Combined Racing duo Rick and Paulo Loureiro and Darren Winterboer’s Barons machine. Sadly Dane’s dad Marcel’s Ferrari 488 GT3 ran into problems in Friday practice.

GT3 pole man Gianni Giannoccaro was next up ahead of balance of performance rivals Mark du Toit’s Trans Africa Racing BMW Z4 and Ricky Giannoccaro’s G&H Gallardo. Charl Arangies' Stradale Motorsport Porsche GT3 Cup topped the Class B grid from Xolile Letlaka’s Stradale Into Africa McLaren and Ant Blunden’s Sajco GSP Porsche 997. Marius Jackson’s Megafibre Audi R8 led Jimmy Giannoccaro in Class C and Uli Sanne’s BMW Z4 led Richard de Roos’ Porsche 911 RSR in Class D.

The first start was red flagged following a squabble between the BMWs that saw Winterboer take an early shower after Jonathan du Toit and Jimmy Giannoccaro never made the first start but the red flag start proved lucky for the delayed Morgenrood. Dayne Angel then made short work of it off the restart, as he made off to take an easy flag to flag win ahead of Morgenrood and the Loureiro brothers with Gianni Giannoccaro in chase, but he ran into trouble late in the race.

That opened the way for the keen spat behind them to fight it out for fifth, as Arangies initially duelled with Letlaka, who came under pressure from Blunden later on, while Ricky Giannoccaro came from the back of the grid to also pip Letlaka for 7th. In so doing, Giannoccaro took GT3 honours from Mark du Toit, while Jackson took Class C and Sanne Class D after de Roos hit trouble.

Race 2 was much the same up front, bar for Rick Loureiro failing to make the start as Angel once again cleared off to take another easy win from Morgenrood, Paulo Loureiro and Gianni Giannoccaro. Behind them, both Arangies and Blunden overcame Letlaka for fifth ahead of Ricky Giannoccaro, with Sanne next up from Jackson, who fought back after an early off to pip Mark du Toit to the post.

So Dayne Angel took the day overall and the Class A+ win in dominant style over Class A men Ben Morgenrood and Paulo Loureiro. Gianni Giannoccaro took the balance pf performance GT3 win over Ricky Giannoccaro and Mark du Toit, while Charl Arangies took an entertaining Class B win from Ant Blunden and Xolile Letlaka, while Class D man Uli Sanne beat Class C winner Marius Jackson overall.

The next round of the G&H Extreme supercars is Zwartkops' Winter Edition Passion for Speed over the weekend of 20 to 21 June.
