A win and a bonus for Mini Max leader Ghazi

The past week has proved a unique double whammy for kart racing star Ghazi Motlekar as the Dainfern youngster prepares for the forthcoming Rotax Mini Max Nationals at Zwartkops next weekend.

Not only did the under-13 class national championship leader take victory in Saturday’s Gauteng Northern Regions races in the under-13 class, but a court of appeal ruling also means that the Dainfern kid won the opening regional round in February too.

“We have had a very good week!” Ghazi admitted. “On Thursday a MSA court ruling on a penalty handed us the overall win for February's first round at Benoni and on Saturday I won again at Zwartkops, so now we are leading both the nationals and the regionals.

“Saturday’s races were very good — I qualified on pole and had a clean run to win the first heat, but race 2 was a bit more difficult. “I dropped back to fourth and had to fight back to take the flag first, but I incurred a three place penalty, which was a pity, so I took fourth.

“Race 3 was another lights to flag win, and I took the overall victory for the day, so all good! It’s a pity about that penalty as it could have been a grand slam today as I set the fastest lap in each race too, but that’s racing!

“Now we look forward to the big national double-header here at Zwartkops in two weeks time. "I have a brilliant team around me and we are 100% ready to pick up where we left off at Idube at round 1 with four straight wins and the objective is to do the same on both Saturday and Sunday in two weeks time."
