Volkswagen Motorsport teammates, Rookie champion Christopher Tait and Astron Energy Polo Cup champion Rory Atkinson enjoyed almost carbon copy weekends en route to third and second in their respective Polo Cup SATC SupaCup heats at Aldo Scribante on Saturday. Each also came home second overall to consolidate their championship positions in the Gqeberha races.

“Aldo Scribante once again delivered impressive results for our 30th Anniversary Astron Energy Polo Cup and SATC SupaCup rookies,” Mike Rowe, Volkswagen Head of Motorsport confirmed. “Rookie Cup champion Chris Tait finished a great second for the day in Polo Cup with identical results to Rory Atkinson in our SupaPolo. Well done to both on a great effort at our home races in Gqeberha.”

Volkswagen’s Rookie Cup champion Tait once again made it into the Astron Energy Polo Cup Superpole shootout by qualifying sixth. He nailed it to start fourth before Chris made best of a tricky start to move up to third in race 1 before gaining a place in heat 2 to wind up second and best of the rookies for the day. “Finally a clean weekend and it certainly paid off,” Christopher smiled. “The team handed me a perfect Astron Energy Polo Cup and we had good pace throughout, so I’m delighted to reward the guys with back to back Scribante podiums!”

A step up to SATC SupaCup and Volkswagen rookie and Astron Cup champion Rory Atkinson enjoyed a carbon copy weekend to his young teammate. Starting third, that’s where he ended up in race 1,  before gaining a place to second in race 2 for second on the day. “Can’t say we are 100% happy because we’re here to win, but a good day with strong points and I consolidated second in the chase,” Rory explains. “Thanks to my team for a fine effort once again. Now we look forward to Cape Town on 19 September, where we plan to chase for another win.”
