Fabienne Lanz delivers the goods

They say that if you want to get a job done properly, then you should give it to someone busy to do. Someone like Fabienne Lanz, who not only runs a team of a dozen karters, but she also did more than well enough to consolidate her own Northern Regions Senior Max championship lead at the penultimate round of the Gauteng karting series at Zwartkops on Saturday.

“We had a very busy weekend,” Fabienne confirmed. “Never a dull moment! “Most of my kids enjoyed tight and nail biting racing, especially in Cadets where Moosa Kajee took second for the day. I felt so sorry for KC Ensor-Smith though — he was in the top three all day, but a manifold broke off, before he came from last to challenge to win the final and ended up fifth. "He was definitely my driver of the day.

Fabienne’s other Cadets had a good day too — Luke Hill ended 7th and Alex Carle, Wian Boshoff, Anthon Lombard and Ian Joubert in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. Alessio Angelucci had a good run, lapping within a second of the fastest guys on his Mini Max debut; Nqaba Ntomela made his usual brilliant starts, but became involved in a bit of argy bargy although he ended well in 8th in Junior Max and our birthday boy Vassili Lazanakis fought hard and showed his best race craft yet in Maxterino.

“Oh - yes — I raced too!” Fabienne concluded. “I was still struggling with power like I did in Vereeniging, but we changed a few electrical bits and it seemed better as we were much closer to Joshua Dias in heat 3 but still not quite there. “Still, we always take the good with the bad and it ended well with a good second overall and a podium to protect my championship lead into the final and close off a generally very good meeting.”

Fabienne now prepares to live out a life-long dream in her first trip to represent South Africa in the Rotax Max World Karting Finals in Italy 22-23 October, before returning to wrap up that back-to-back Northern Regions Senior Max championship at Vereeinging on Guy Fawkes Day.
