Another full karting day for Fabienne
South African karting heroine Fabienne Lanz will treat Saturday’s penultimate Northern Regions Karting Championship races as much as a competitive weekend as she chases to close off her second NR Senior Max championship in a row, hopefully in another all-girl podium; as she will as practice for her Rotax Max World Final campaign in Italy a month later.
“It’s quite an exciting time for me,” double African champion Fabienne explained. “I have a race in hand in the Gauteng Senior Max championship and it’s another scoring round, so we need to keep that where it is and maybe even open the lead a little. “I am also preparing for the World Finals, which is a lifelong dream and then we have the chance for us girls to finish 1-2-3-4 in Senior Max, which would be pretty special.”
Shannon Jackson, Ivana Cetinich, Rachelle du Plessis and Fabienne make for a fearsome female karting quartet in the open age group Senior Max 125cc class, where Lanz, Cetinich and Jackson not only made world history with a first all-ladies podium in that class a year ago, but that trio also finished 1-2-3 in the 2015 championship.
Fabienne also runs a significant team of young racers, with no less than six karts in the baby under-9 Cadet class for Moosa Kajee, KC Ensor-Smith, Anthon Lombard, Ian Joubert, Wian Boshoff, Luke Hill and Alex Carle. Then there’s young lady driver Taylor Hill in Micro Rok, birthday boy Vassili Lazanakis in Maxterino, Alessio Angelucci in Mini Max and Nqaba Ntombela, who loves Zwartkops and normally races very well there, in Junior Max.
“I’m not sure if I will do both DD2 and Senior Max this weekend — I do need to get a little more time in the DD2, because that is what I will be racing in the World Finals, but race days are very busy for me having to help manage all the kids in our team, so let’s see how it goes. “Ether way, we are all looking forward to another great weekend’s karting.”
