Hennie & Adriaan ready for biggest test of ’22 season

It’s destination Upington for Hennie de Klerk and navigator Adriaan Roets with their trusty TreasuryONE Amarok locked and loaded for the Kalahari Desert and the biggest test of its 2022 South African Rally-Raid Championship season.

2018 Dakar rookie winner Hennie and Roets are ready to tackle the jewel of the crown Toyota Gazoo Racing 1000 Desert Race from 24 to 26 June. “The Desert Race is the biggest race on the local calendar for 2022,” Hennie de Klerk pointed out. “It's 1000 kilometres over three days, so a long distance with a bivouac overnight. We must perform as best as we can each day, while at the same time staying focussed on completing the entire distance.

"It’s a mini Dakar in a sense, with many of the aspects we understand well from our experiences in South America and Saudi Arabia and best of all, it's right on our doorstep. “We will still be racing our trusty TreasuryONE Amarok Coyote V8 in the Desert Race while we continue to build our new T1+ WCT Hilux with an eye on our next Dakar adventure, but we are confident of another good result.

“The Amarok is still more than just competitive in the T1 class, so we’re keen to ruffle a few feathers, both in class and with some luck, overall up in the Northern Cape. “Can’t wait!”
