Jurie Takes the Day, Giordano tops turbo Polo Cup rookies

Bullion IT Racing returned from Aldo Scribante’s third round races on the front foot as Jurie Swart consolidated his Compcare Polo Cup championship advantage with an overall win. Turbo Polo rookie Giordano Lupini delivered a tigerish performance to seventh for the day. Swart came from behind to win the opening heat before taking third in the second, while Lupini once again made up several positions as he fought his way to be first rookie home.

“Wow, what a day,” Jurie Swart admitted. “We had decent pace in practice and I qualified third on Friday afternoon. “I then went fourth in Superpole, but come the races, all our hard work on race pace paid off and my blue Bullion IT Polo was quite literally on rails right off the line. "I managed to pick pole man Clinton Bezuidenhout off first after a few laps. I then reeled Charl Visser in and passed him for the win.

“Race 2 was a little more difficult, I never made the best of my front row start from the lucky packet draw, but I clawed back to third for more good points and the overall win for the day to further consolidate my championship lead. “Well done to our entire team and special thanks to Bullion IT, not just for helping make it happen for us, but also for travelling around the country to support us at every race. "We trust we are doing you proud!”

“Unfortunately I made a mistake in qualifying and ended up tenth on the grid,” Giordano Lupini explained. “Then I got off the line well, but I was pinched and had to lift and dropped back to thirteenth or something. “So I put my head down and gave it my all. “Our race pace was good, but I had huge pressure from Lee Thompson after his off and had to keep him at bay while I fought back up to eighth. "Lee ultimately pipped me at the post. "I worked so hard for those points!

“Race 2 was another hard job from ninth on the grid and another tricky start that dropped me a place or two. “From there, my red Bullion IT Polo was on rails, so I was able to pick them off one by one. “Dean Venter proved the most difficult to properly pass, which lost me some time, but I was still able to climb to sixth. “Now we need to fix that qualifying and fight up front, but thanks to the team for a fantastic car and to Bullion IT for the support!”

“Jurie and Giordano once again made us proud today,” Bullion IT CEO Clive Strover concluded. “These kids and our entire team are doing a brilliant job. “Now we can’t wait for Red Star near Delmas on 2 July. “See you there!”

The weekend however ended under a cloud when a Volkswagen Motorsport transporter was involved in an accident returning from Gqeberha, claiming the lives of two team members. Bullion IT Racing extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the two men lost in that tragic accident, and to the entire Volkswagen Motorsport family.
