All three drivers are in the top four as Global Touring Cars return

Chemical Logistics Racing heads to East London’s lockdown delayed Global Touring Car Racing fixture on Saturday 28 August looking to improve on its strong position. All three of the team's drivers are all in the top four of the 2021 championship chase.

Robert Wolk leads the way aboard his Chemical Logistics Toyota Corolla by seven points over rival Michael van Rooyen’s similar Gazoo Racing machine. Wolk’s teammates, Julian van der Watt's Autozone Ford Focus sits third on 80 points, three clear of Scott Temple's second Chemical Logistics Corolla. The East London race was delayed from June through the enhanced lockdown, but the team is now raring and ready to race on the historic, fast and demanding border racetrack.

“We have not been sleeping through lockdown,” Robert Wolk pointed out. “Our WCT Engineering team has spent its time finding many little advantages in the cars and I was delighted with progress in my Chemical Logistics Toyota Corolla GTC when we went testing last week. “I will have my work cut out though — Michael and his team have also been busy fettling his car and my teammates are always there to steal a few points, but I can’t wait to finally get racing again!”

Like Wolk, Julian van der Watt has also won a race this season and he’s doubly motivated to impress now that his has Autozone on board as title sponsor on his Ford Focus GTC. “We only finished this car a week before the first race and I managed to ace the second reverse grid race to take my first win that weekend,” Julian smiled. “We have all three won a race so far this year — I'd like to be the first to make it a double to celebrate Autozone’s colours on my car. “Bring it on!”

Scott Temple is keen to deliver a consistent performance in East London. “I have had some great races this season and even won one,” Scott admitted. “But I have also been a little unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time a few times too often. “So this weekend the plan is to keep out of other peoples’ problems and deliver maximum points with my Chemical Logistics Toyota Corolla GTC. “Let’s do this!"

Team manager Stuart Thompson is greatly looking forward to the weekend. “Of course we want two pole positions, two race wins and two fastest laps,” he suggested. “We have come close to that already so it would be a great achievement, but I am sure whatever the results, Robert, Julian, Scott and the entire team will as always put their best feet forward for the best possible results.”

“I would like to wish every member of our team the best of luck this weekend in East London,” Investchem Racing team boss Ian Schofield concluded. “We have had a long break and none of us can wait to race — we are prepared and ready and I am looking forward to some great weekend racing at one of South Africa’s most iconic racetracks this weekend.”

Lockdown measures remain in force and spectators are still banned from sporting events. You can however follow the Chemical Logistics team’s progress via live streaming on the Extreme Festival social platforms and on YouTube.
