Motlekar delighted Max nationals are back

Johannesburg youngster Ghazi Motlekar has waited a long time to finally get down to national karting action and that finally happens this weekend when he competes in the first round of the SA under-13 Mini Max championship at iDube in KwaZulu Natal. Motlekar has enjoyed a good start to the season despite its lockdown fits and starts and he’s raring to go on the demanding ‘Maritzburg kart track.

“It’s taken forever to finally get going with the national championship through the lockdown and all the rest, but we finally race this weekend,” Ghazi explained. “I think we are ready to deliver at iDube — I worked very hard to keep fit being unable to practice for so long, but I was back behind the wheel as soon as I could after the lockdown softened and we managed to get a local race in, a few weeks ago.

“That went very well as we won all three heats, but it’s not going to be all that easy this weekend — there are some quick guys coming up from the Cape and last year’s Mini Max champion is back for more and he’s on his home track this weekend, but uncle Hughie and Wesleigh Orr, the team and I have prepared well and my new Praga chassis is ready. “So bring it on — I really cannot wait for Sunday!”

This weekend's races are being run to strict Covid-19 regulations and no spectators are allowed, but you can catch the action via live streaming via www.kart.co.za on Sunday.
