Jurie on Polo front foot after GTI win

Jurie Swart heads to the Gauteng mieliefields for the Falken Polo Cup finale at Red Star 26 October on the front foot, following a solid weekend with a race and overall win in the Burly Pro GTi Challenge at Killarney on Saturday.

“It is always good to head to the next race off a solid result in the previous one,” Jurie explained. “We had a great weekend with my Alpine Autohaus Polo in the GTi Challenge on Saturday — qualifying was not as good as I’d have liked with third, but I set off and passed Marco Busi and then Nian du Toit to win the opening race and then got caught up dicing Nian in the second heat and that let Marco get away.

“I chased him down but ran out of laps, although that was good enough to win the day and move a few positions up in the GTi title race in spite of missing a few races, so all good. “We also had a good test with my G-Energy Polo Cup in the week and head to Red Star hoping for another good weekend. “I have never raced there before, but we have extra sessions to learn the track there on Thursday, so we should be on it come race day — can’t wait!

“Thanks to my sponsors, Gozzi at GAP Motorsport, Zak, my dad and the team for a great effort at the regional over the weekend,” Umpie concluded. “Now to do that again this weekend and cement third in the national series — it has been great to do that as a little team racing from Cape Town against the might of the upcountry pros!"
