Tough GTi sharpens Swart’s Polo resolve

Jurie Swart endured a tough weekend at the races on Saturday when his Alpine Autohaus/ Umpini Motors Polo 6R tested the team’s resolve at Killarney's sixth round Burly Pro GTi Challenge meeting. Swart was however more than happy with his performance when the car let him race as he picked up an extra point for the fastest lap of the day in spite of his travails, to see him off to the East London Falken Polo Cup races on the front foot.

“Our car tested us this weekend, but I was happy with my pace in spite of all that,” Umpie admitted. “We missed all of Friday practice to a gearbox problem but I was still able to put it second on the grid in spite of another gearbox issue. "I had a great first few laps and was closing the gap down on Nian du Toit in the lead when I set the fastest lap of the day, but the car started spluttering and I dropped back to fourth. “Sadly it had blown a head gasket, so I was out for the day.

“We will take the positives out of today as we look forward to our next appointment in East London with our Alpine Autohaus/ Umpini Motors Falken Polo Cup GTI - we had a tough weekend at Zwartkops, but I really enjoy the super fast Grand Prix Circuit and the objective is to grab that championship third place back — see you there!"
