Action off and on track at Kyalami showpiece

With just two weeks to go before the Kyalami International Grand Prix Circuit hosts the fourth annual Festival of Motoring presented by WesBank 22-25 August, Gauteng race fans can look forward to far more than just a record grid of V8 racers fighting it out on track.

Something of a mecca of racing and motoring, Festival visitors will be treated to the most iconic historic race cars in the country, supercars and GTs, not only on static display throughout the weekend, but also stretching their legs on track in public displays. The showpieces include Best of the Best classic and V8 muscle cars, also in both static and track activations, while that record grid of racing V8s will there to behold between races at the upper level pits.

The Festival of course, also plays host to a unique V8-only race meeting with South Africa's foremost V8 categories, the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars and the Cape-based V8 Masters adding thunder to the extravaganza. Big news is that the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars grid has swelled to twenty-plus winged 450kW racers, so when they line up together with the 16 identical Ford V8 powered Master Cars making their way up to Kyalami on Sunday, fans can look forward to a grid approaching forty V8s racing together. Now that’s one for the history books!

Expect Supercar championship leader Mackie Adlem (Jaguar XKR) to fight it out up front with title rivals Terry Wilford (Ford Falcon), Thomas Reib (Chevy Lumina) and Franco di Matteo (Jaguar XKR) ahead of a frantic midfield battle, with Masters frontrunners including Fabio Tafani, Marcel Angel, Mark Ridgeway snapping at their heels too.

The racing is of course just the tip of the Festival of Motoring iceberg with a full live motor show happening throughout the four-day Messe Frankfurt-run NAAMSA-endorsed extravaganza packed full with interactive attractions from the chance to self-drive most new car models on the short Kyalami Handling Track or be professionally driven around the Grand Prix Circuit to an interactive 4x4 Area too.

South Africa’s carmakers will show all the latest and future metal in and around the Kyalami pit complex where visitors will also find a Tech Zone showcasing future mobility. The family focussed Kyalami Festival of Motoring also includes a retail area, full catering and refreshments, kid zones and a picnic area with a great view of the Grand Prix Circuit to watch that V8 action and all the displays, parades and driving events at your leisure.
