Scott holds all the Formula 1600 aces

Most drivers will be looking for an upturn of fortunes when the 2019 South African Investchem Formula 1600 championship heads to Port Elizabeth for its fourth round races at the Aldo Scribante Race Track Saturday 15 June. But one man will be keen for it to all keep going just as it is…

Championship leader Scott Temple and his Road To Race/1st Race Mygale will be keen to reel off another couple of pole positions and race wins to further extend his title advantage at Nelson Mandela Bay, but there is more than one adversary keen to put a spanner in that works. Not least of all is 2018 championship runner up Nicholas van Weely, who will be keen to offload that bridesmaid’s tag — he also lies second in the title race in his Magnificent Paints & Hardware van Diemen, so his main mission will be to win both races too.

Another young man who will be more than careful at the start of both of Saturday’s races, will be Cape title contender Andrew Rackstraw, who lost his second race win of the year to a jumped start at his home circuit last time out. Rackstraw would have been in a far more competitive position were it not for his startline misdemeanours and he certainly has proven to be up to the task of beating Temple…

Rackstraw’s start woes have also allowed two more young guns to close up on him in the title race and while Siyabonga Mankonkwana (Investchem Mygale) and Tiago Rebelo (TRMS Mygale) are quite involved in their own title spat, they are quietly becoming a threat to the top three too. Never ignore seasoned contenders Andrew Schofield (Investchem Mygale), Alex Gillespie (ERP Trucking Components Mygale) and Gerard Geldenhuys (Abacus Divisions Mygale) from the front running action either — all are ready to step up in PE too.

Investchem Formula 1600’s 2019 rookies, Alex Vos' Ecurie Zoo van Diemen and Zac Edwards' SCM Mygale will both be making their first visits to the Port Elizabeth racetrack, while Allen Meyer will be chasing Class B honours in his van Diemen. All the drivers will be hoping for a dry track on Saturday following last year’s wet weekend at the Bay, but if you are in the area, why not make your way to Aldo Scribante on Saturday where the Formula 1600s will race twice among a full program of national championship Extreme festival racing…?
