Husqvarna rider Tennant on brink of MX double

Q4 Fuels Husqvarna Racing heads to the final round 2018 TRP Distributors SA National Motocross Championship at Krugersdorp’s Dirt Bronco Saturday 20 October with Caleb Tennant leading both the MX1 and MX2 national titles, while Maddy Malan is within striking distance in both classes too and young Niel van der Vyver sits fourth in the 65cc championship but just six points behind the second placed rider.

Tennant heads to Dirt Bronco fresh off representing South Africa at the Motocross des Nations in the United States in a 16 point lead in the MX1 championship and 34 points clear of Malan in MX2. “We are down to the final challenge,” Caleb admitted. “I have led both championships for most of the season and we head to the final round needing to just finish the first MX2 race well and to score a couple of podiums in MX1 to make the dream come true. “It’s nerve wracking for sure, but the whole team can't wait — this really is a big weekend!

Maddy Malan sits second in 250cc MX2 and sixth in MX1, but in the middle of a fraught five-bike fight for second in the bigger 450cc class. “We have had a few tough breaks this year but we are still in there for second in both championships, so it would be huge to pull that off for Q4 Fuels Husqvarna Racing,” Maddy admitted. ”It’s a big ask in MX1, but MX2 looks pretty good so let’s get this done — see you at Dirt Bronco!”

Q4 Fuels Husqvarna’s youngest motocross star, Niel van der Vyver has quietly and consistently gone about his rookie season in the 65cc class to arrive in Krugersdorp in a fierce three-way fight for second in the championship. “We have worked hard and scored points throughout the season and my results have slowly improved as we went along,” Niel explained. “Now we have a chance for second in the championship — it won’t be easy, but I’m going to give it my best shot — I really can’t wait to race!"

"Q4 Fuels Husqvarna Racing goes to the SA Motocross Finals in a strong position,” Husqvarna Motorcycles SA brand manager Fred Fensham concluded. “Caleb heads to Dirt Bronco in the lead of two South African Championships, Maddy is in a strong position and Niel has just got better and better as the season has progressed - we wish all three of our riders the very best at Dirt Bronco — let's finish it off in style guys…”
