Aberdein enjoys great Dutch weekend

Jonathan Aberdein bounced back from a troublesome previous round when he twice straddled the podium as the FIA European Formula 3 championship visited Holland’s seaside Zandvoort racetrack over the weekend.

Aberdein qualified sixth for the opening race before driving home seventh overall and third among the rookies for his first F3 podium, before locking a tyre to qualify 13th and finish 11th in race 2, but he was back on the rookie podium after ending 8th overall in the final.

“That was a strong weekend at last!” Jonathan explained. “Zandvoort is proving a bit of a lucky track for me and it was more of the same on my first Formula 3 visit here, with two rookie podiums. “I am happy to be getting stronger and stronger — this was a clear step forward for us and it’s also a geat base to work from for the rest of the year.”

Aberdein ended second on his last visit to Zandvoort in German Formula 4 this year, but Formula 3 has proven a significant step up for him. “European Formula 3 is a really tough class and hugely competitive with many future F1 drivers racing here, so it's great to be in the top ten and improving all the time — the season gets very busy now with races every couple of weeks starting at Spa Francorchamps in two weeks — I really can’t wait for that!”
