Pepson Plastics team set for podiums

Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing heads to the Koue Bokkeveld Mountains in the Western Cape on the front foot for the second round of the SA Cross Country racing season 4-5 March as the team looks forward to improving on its podium-rich start in Eshowe in KwaZulu Natal early in March. The team’s four riders are also all itching to get back in the saddle at the event around North Pakstoor, 50km from the Cape town of Ceres following that two-month break since the season-opener.

Kenny Gilbert heads to the Bokkeveld in the lead of the OR1 title race after his win in Eshowe, but the Pretoria veteran has also been busy since then racing the 6-day Dakar Series Afriquia Merzogha Rally in Morocco, where he recovered to finish 25th after a penultimate day crash. “I’m blessed to have finished in Morocco after that off, but now my full attention is on the Koue Bokkeveld,” Kenny confirmed. “We head back to those mountains for the first time since 2016 and that was a really tough race, but I am ready, My Pepson Plastics Husqvarna FX450 is ready and I have a great team behind me — let’s do this!”

Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing's Taki Bogiages delivered a fine second in OR2 a week after being drafted into the team to replace the injured Brett Swanepoel at Eshowe, but Pretoria rider Bogiages also suffered a recent injury and has worked hard to bounce back at the Bokkeveld. “I’m delighted to be fit and ready in time for the Koue Bokkeveld to be able to carry on fighting for that OR2 crown,” Taki admitted. “The Bokkeveld has a tough reputation, but armed with my Pepson Plastics  Husqvarna FX350 I’m ready to deliver — I have a great team behind me and we are ready to race — can’t wait!”

Pepson Plastics Racing Husqvarna young gun Travis Ghelig was also on OR2 podium at Eshowe and he’s intent on going even better in the Cape next weekend. “I scored good points last time out and I was pretty chuffed with that,” Boksburg lad Travis pointed out. “But it’s onward and upward to the Koue Bokkeveld, which promises to be another tough race — perfect territory for my Pepson Plastics Husqvarna FX350, so I’m really looking forward to doing my team proud!”

Masters rider and team sponsor Iain Pepper is also keen on scoring another podium for Pepson Plastics Husqvarna in the Cape: “It looks as if we are in for another tough one down in the Cape,” Midrand rider Iain confirmed. “But the team is ready to carry on where it left off at Eshowe and we’re looking forward to continuing the season at least as well as we started it — bring on the Bokkeveld!”

“Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing started its South African Cross Country season in fine style and now the guys are itching to get back on the bikes after a long break” Husqvarna Motorcycles brand manager Fred Fensham concluded. “This race through the Koue Bokkeveld Mountains is probably one of the tougher challenges of the season and the team is ready — good luck to the lads in the Cape — let’s go for gold!”
