Best Polo Cup results yet for Duminy

Ballito’s Daniel Duminy returned home overjoyed by his best performance yet in the Engen Volkswagen Cup after he drove his SMD Racing VMR Polo to a fine sixth overall in Saturday's Extreme Festival races at Cape Town’s Killarney International Raceway. It was the ideal pick-me-up for Duminy too, following the disappointing news last week that the Audi Sport TT Cup he was due to race alongside his local commitments this year was canned for 2018.

Daniel made his intentions known from the get-go when he qualified sixth on the grid Saturday morning before moving up to third early in race 1, but he missed a gear and dropped back to seventh before ending up sixth and then running seventh from lights to flag in race 2 to come home 6th overall and fourth among the Juniors in his best ever Polo Cup result.

“I’m just super happy with today!” Daniel admitted. “I really needed that after the ups and downs of the past few weeks. “All glory to God and thank you to my team Vic Maharaj Racing, my parents and my trainer Russel White. “We head to Zwartkops next in three weeks time — that’s our home track and I intend keeping the ball rolling now — upward and onward — let’s do this!
