Q4 Fuel motocross team ready to race

Q4 Fuel Husqvarna Racing heads to Pietermatitzburg in KwaZulu Natal looking to continue its solid start to the 2018 TRP Distributors SA National Motocross Championship at Thunder Valley’s second round Saturday 7 April. Cape Town rider Caleb Tennant, local Pietermaritzburg racer Maddy Malan and Durbanville, Cape Town rising star Neil van der Vyver are all keen to improve on their solid championship starts at the Port Elizabeth season-opener in February.

Tennant started in style with first moto wins in both MX1 and MX2, leaving Nelson Mandela Bay tied for the MX1 points lead and second in MX2. “I had a great start in PE,”  Caleb explained. “Our long game remains the championships, so it’s most important to come away with maximum points and I’m looking forward to Thunder Valley — it’s a great motocross track, we have a great team in Q4 Fuel Husqvarna Racing and we are looking forward to keeping the momentum up in KZN.”

Local hero Malan is meanwhile intent on ramping up his strong comeback from injury in Port Elizabeth following a lengthy period of recuperation from injury last season. “It’s always tough returning from injury, but we had a good run in PE and I came home race only ten points off the MX2 championship lead, but we have a little more work to do in MX1” Maddy pointed out. “Thunder Valley is my home national and I’m ready get my championship hunt back on track for Q4 Fuel Husqvarna Racing — let’s do this!

Reigning SA 50cc champion van der Vyver is coming to grips with his bigger 65cc steed and tougher, older rivals and he’s ready to move up the field at Thunder Valley. “We had a fair start in PE and I brought some good points home,” Neil admitted. “We have worked hard since then and I am finding pace all the time on the bigger bike, so I’m really looking forward to even better results at Thunder Valley.”

“Q4 Fuel Husqvarna Racing enjoyed a positive start to the season against some pretty tough odds after we had to reshuffle out rider line-up after last-minute injury,” Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham explained. “But the lads delivered brilliantly and now that we have had a little time to prepare for the second round, we are looking forward to a great weekend at Thunder Valley - best of luck to all three riders — I believe we are now 100% ready.”
