Gauteng karts set to stun the Vaal

Gauteng’s leading kart racers are locked and loaded for the penultimate fifth round of the 2019 Northern Regions Rotax Max Challenge at Vereeniging Saturday 31 August. And while the day can be expected to start chilly not far from the late winter Vaal River, rest assured that the track action will be red hot...

There is an unusual look at the top of the premier DD2 class, where Bloemfontein lad Justin Allison holds a slender title lead over veteran Nick Verheul and first-time winner last time out, Brandon Smith and his brother Jamie.  And with dark horse and multiple champion champion Bradley Liebenberg unable to race due to a main circuit double-date, their fight should be the star of the show. Keep an eye on Llwellyn Myburgh, Anton Pommersheim and Wayland Wyman here, while Philippe Chapat Masters has under control over Steve Beaumont.

Wayland Wyman, Dane van Heerde and Nick Verheul are involved in a tight Senior Max title tussle with Shannon Jackson and Jurgen Pommersheim in pursuit, but there’s a twist here as late starter Jayden Els and wildcard last time out, Fabienne Lanz, won the races last time out. Taiibi Tucci, Beverly van Heerde and Anton Pommersheim are dark horses too.

In school kid action, Kwanda Mokoena holds a strong title advantage over Aqil Alibhai in under-15 high school Junior Max, with Jordan Brooks, Lorenzo Cianfanelli, Kgalema Mngadi, Greg and Malumane and Ndumiso Bungane ready to make it a nightmare for the race commentators!

Troy Snyman will be looking for a better weekend to add to his Mini Max title advantage, while Matthew Morrell will be looking to repeat his under-13 race wins. Occasional racer Mo Wally is always a threat, while Bjorn Bertholdt will be keen to keep his championship charge on the run but will have Mandla Mlangeni, Taya van der Laan and the able Jordan Brooks on his case.

The dominant Mohammed Moerat will be chasing more under-11 Micro Max success, but Luviwe Sambudla has been on fire of late with Erich Heystek, Wian Boshoff and Kyle Beukes. Ntiyiso Mabunda, Kent Swartz, Caleb Cotterell, Mahlori Mabunda and Anesu Maphumulo are also among the many kids quite capable of upsetting this applecart too.

Tsepang Shisinwana has had a great run in the baby Bambino race, but he cannot afford to rest with Troy van der Laan and Keegan Beaumont around. Rookie Cristian Verheul, Mattao Mason are all capable of an upset, while Kian Snyman, Aiden Beaumont, Muziwakhe Thekiso and Kaiden Snyman are all gaining pace fast.

The Vereeniging Kart Circuit is on van Riebeeck Street in Vereeniging, next to the Vaal Showgrounds, left off the Boy Louw Street off-ramp, heading south on the R59 Vereeniging freeway. Entrance is free and good food and refreshments are on sale at the clubhouse beneath a grandstand with a full view of the track...
