SA kart champion has mountains to climb

It took a significant amount of race court wrangling as among his rivals did their best to remove 2019 South African champion Troy Snyman from his Mini Max karting throne, but Motorsport SA this week ratified the Pietermaritzburg youngster’s hard-earned title. Delighted with the news, Snyman who ultimately dominated last year not only confirmed a step up to Junior Max for 2020, but he will also carry his race helmet up Mount Kilimanjaro…

“2020 is going to be another great karting year,” Troy warned. “But I also want to spend more time with my climbing team as we scale greater heights and I’m focusing on 4 peaks this year — the first being Mount Kilimanjaro’s 5895m peak. “Our climbing team has sponsors to raise funds for paraplegics and each team member will carry an item of our chosen sport to the top — I will be taking my racing helmet — I cant’ wait!”

Climbing to new mountain highs will however be over and above Troy’s karting ambitions, which also move up a notch in 2020. “We are racing the high school Junior Max class this year,” Snyman confirmed. “I will be racing in a few International races in the European championship again in 2020, on top of the Rotax Max Nationals around the country, the Gauteng Northern Regions championships and our local KZN championship at iDube.

“I have been working very hard in the off season — it is a big step up to Junior Max and we have some bigger under-15 guys to beat there who have been racing that class for a while. “But we will be ready thanks to Wesleigh Orr’s dedicated hard training program. “Now I’m looking forward to another crazy, adventurous and successful year filled with tears, laughter, mischief  — bring it on!”
