Phakisa for live broadcast as racers donate

Saturday’s Six Hours of the Free State South African Endurance Championship season opener, as well as the inaugural South African GT Challenge races will be live streamed from Welkom. Race fans anywhere in South Africa or around the world can tune in and follow the race action live from the Phakisa Freeway.

Fans can connect to the feed via either www.motorsportmedia.co.za or www.saenduranceseries.co.za from Saturday morning. Live timing will also be available throughout on www.protiming.co.za.

The 6-hour has meanwhile attracted more than 30 entries to what is expected to once again prove a superb season’s racing, while the GT Challenge is also set to get the pulses racing throughout the year. “We seem set for a great year’s racing, perhaps our best yet,” SAEC boss Roger Pearce confirmed. “And now anyone can follow the action throughout the six hour, as well as for both GT races.

In a separate development, the SA Endurance Championship, along with Motorsport South Africa, www.motorsportmedia.co.za and other race-related entities donated an amount to a local charity, following discussions with an Induna at Phakisa on concerns that the race was going on, while some lesser-privileged children in the area needed school shoes and uniforms to get to class everyday.

Pearce enquired to the cost of the required uniform items and concluded that the amount of one race tyre would see to five school kids properly clothed for the year, never mind the hand-me-down value of the clothing and shoes for many years to come and offered Induna Molema Mochudi that amount before rustling up further support from within the SA Endurance Series.

“This is the great news and thanks Roger for your assistance,” Induna Mochudi beamed on Thursday. “I truly appreciate donations from Michael & Sofia Jansen, Adrian Scholtz of MSA and Michael Lupini of Motorsport Media. “I have just arrived from the store where I submitted a list of those very very needy — I don’t have words to express my thanks to the caring parents of motor sport.”

“When Induna Machudi came to me with his concerns, I had to do something,” Pearce explained. “Here we are racing multimillion rand motorcars and around the corner, kids are not even clothed properly for school, so we’ve done something about it and hopefully this can be the start of something special. “Anyone else interested in assisting the Induna in his efforts should contact me over the weekend..” Roger Pearce can also be reached on roger@afriod.co.za.
