Camps Bay’s South African Junior Max karting champion Sebastian Boyd continued to progress in the top Rotax Max DD2 class with a solid fourth at Killarney’s second round Western Province Karting Championship races on Saturday. SACS College Grade 8 student Boyd took the significant step up out of Junior Max straight into the powerful and highly competitive premier gearbox class this year and while he was pleased to be the best of the DD2 rookies on Saturday, he’s hoping for a step up at the opening national championship round over the Easter weekend.

“We came to DD2 because not only do the cream of South Africa’s karters race here, but also the country’s best drivers of all race DD2, so it’s the place to be,” Sebastian explained. “We are still on a steep learning curve though and we progressed quite well on Saturday, while I’m learning the kart and we are starting to understand the best set-up for our Boyd Boss Freight Kosmic. “We scored good points and we are heading in the right direction, so it’s all good.”

The team now heads to iDube in the KZN Midlands for the first round of the South African National Rotax Max Challenge. “I can’t wait for iDube!” Sebastian admitted. “That’s a crazy track and there will be a huge field racing, so we have it all to do, but I'm looking to learn and progress there, so who knows, a good result is as possible as a bad one in those mad DD2 nationals. “Special thanks to the team, my dad and uncle Les Herring for all the work over the weekend — we are getting there!”
